Overview

Built in 1485 by Jacques I of Martainville, the castle is one of the rare examples of early Renaissance architecture in Normandy. It has retained its original interior layout. The Museum of Norman Traditions and Arts, housed in the castle, boasts a remarkable collection of regional furniture dating from the 15th to the 19th century. The ethnographic section dedicated to Normandy features reconstructed farmhouse interiors complete with objects and artifacts illustrating daily life in the 18th and 19th centuries, a large collection of Norman headdresses, costumes, and jewelry, as well as folk musical instruments made in Normandy.
